I remember the day I realized my altar had gathered dust. Not the mystical, intention-filled dust that sometimes feels sacred in our craft—just ordinary, forgotten-corner-of-the-room dust. My tarot cards hadn’t been shuffled in weeks. My crystals sat in their bowl, untouched. The herbs I’d carefully dried were still bundled, waiting for spellwork I couldn’t seem to find the energy to perform.

⛤ The Ebb and Flow of Magical Practice
In the glossy Instagram posts and carefully curated TikTok videos, witchcraft can look like a constant state of connection—daily rituals performed without fail, intuition always on point, magic consistently flowing through fingertips. But that’s not the reality for most of us.
The truth? It’s actually quite rare to feel deeply connected to your practice all the time. Like any relationship, your connection to witchcraft naturally ebbs and flows.
Sometimes, the disconnect happens because life simply gets in the way. Work deadlines pile up. Family needs your attention. Physical or mental health challenges emerge. Other times, it’s subtler—a slow drift away as your interests or needs evolve.
And you know what? Some of the most powerful witches I know have gone through periods—months, sometimes years—with no active spiritual practice whatsoever. Some have completely reinvented their craft multiple times over decades. This doesn’t make them less authentic; it makes them human.
